BTA Signs Cooperation Agreement with Bulgarian Donors’ Forum

The Bulgarian News Agency (BTA) enlarged the circle of its partnerships with another organization working for public benefit: the Bulgarian Donors’ Forum (BDF), which will celebrate its 20th anniversary next year, BTA Director General Kiril Valchev said at the BTA National Press Club on Monday. “BDF comprises 55 foundations and organizations, and one of its foremost missions is to connect donors with recipients,” Valchev added. The contract between BTA and BDF specifies that the national news agency holds the rights to donation reporting, he said. There is no legal barrier to mentioning the names of corporate donors because this is not advertising, Valchev explained.
BDF Executive Director Krassimira Velichkova said: “Our partnership with BTA is a major step forward. We believe that BTA will become one of the strongest voices telling donors’ stories. This partnership is a chance to let the public know who is behind the fundraising initiatives. The most important news institution has finally stood behind the idea that donors are an important news topic.”
Velichkova noted that there were over 105,000 news reports about donations in the COVID year 2021, decreasing by 30,000 compared with 2020. “It was one of few pieces of good news to shine in the darkness of a crisis year full of anxiety.” Velichkova further said: “The news about corporate donations is anonymous, but with this partnership we will ensure that donation is recognized by the public as a natural pattern of conduct for contribution to society.”
Tsetska Karadjova, founder of Maria’s World Foundation, said that over 1 billion leva has been donated to Bulgarians over the last 10 years. Important initiatives and organizations contributing to the nation’s development have been supported. “We at BDF have always believed that the public needs to hear inspiring stories,” Karadjova added.
