On this date in Bulgarian history:
1928: A magnitude-7 quake epicentred in Popovitsa, Plovdiv Region, hits Southern Bulgaria. It destroys one-third of the city of Plovdiv, killing 120 people and injuring more than 1,000.
1952: The Council of Ministers decrees the building of a state archive network.
1957: The Cultural Monuments Institute is set up.
1969: Diplomatic relations established with Peru.
1980: Diplomatic relations established with Zimbabwe.
