US President Joe Biden on Wednesday sent to the Senate his nomination of Kenneth H. Merten for Ambassador to Bulgaria, the White House said on its website.
Born in St. Louis, Missouri, in 1961, Merten holds a B.A. from Miami University in Oxford, Ohio, and a M.A. from American University in Washington, D.C.
He is a career member of the Senior Foreign Service, and recently served as Charge d’Affaires ad interim of the US Embassy in Haiti. His previously appointments include Principal Deputy Assistant Secretary in the Bureau of Global Talent Management, a Deputy Assistant Secretary in the Bureau of Western Hemisphere Affairs, Ambassador to Croatia, Ambassador to Haiti, and Deputy Executive Secretary of the Department of State. He speaks Haitian Creole, French, German and Spanish. Married, with two children.
