1330: Army of Bulgarian Tsar Michael Shishman is defeated by Serbs at Velbuzhd (today Kyustendil). Michael Shishman is killed.
1879: First issue of the “Official Gazette” comes out.
1913: Second Balkan War ends. Bulgaria, Serbia, Romania, Greece, and Montenegro sign the Peace Treaty of Bucharest. Serbia and Greece take most of Macedonia, and Romania takes Dobroudja’s southern part.
1968: Tenth World Festival of Youth and Students opens in Sofia with over 20,000 delegates and guests from 138 countries.
2000: Annual state award established after Paissii of Chilendar, is conferred to recognize works of arts by Bulgarian authors related to Bulgaria’s history and traditions.
2008: Bulgarian-French archaeological team discovers earliest traces of human presence in Europe, dating from over 1,400,000 years, in Kozarnika Cave near Oreshets village, Vidin region.
