Customs Officials Seize 512,000 Contraband Cigarettes at Danube Bridge

Customs officers found 512,000 cigarettes (25,600 packs) in a truck at the Danube Bridge checkpoint in Ruse, the customs authorities said Friday. The cigarettes were transported in a trucks with foreign registration and a Turkish driver.
According to the documents, the truck was travelling from Turkiye to Germany and was carrying socks. During the check, the customs inspectors also found cartons filled with stacks of cigarettes of two different brands and without a valid Bulgarian excise duty band. The cigarettes were seized.
The case is under investigation. 
In the past month, inspectors from the Ruse customs office have found 71, 420 contraband cigarettes.
