International Biathlon Union President Impressed with Institutions’ Support for Bulgaria’s Bid to Host Winter Youth Olympics

International Biathlon Union (IBU) President Olle Dahlin Friday received a special plaque from Youth and Sports Minister Georgi Glouchkov. Dahlin is in Bulgaria for a conference of IBU’s Southern Europe members in Bansko (Southwestern Bulgaria). He met with President Rumen Radev earlier in the day.
Dahlin said he was honoured to attend this constructive conference. He was accompanied by IBU Development Director Dagmara Gerasimuk.
Dahlin and Bulgarian Biathlon Federation President Atanas Furnadzhiev were received by President Radev and Georgi Glouchkov in succession. The participants discussed a possible holding of Winter Youth Olympics in Bulgaria.
The IBU President told reporters he was impressed with the support of the Bulgarian institutions for this cause. He noted that all institutions were committed to it, adding that this was a fine platform for building a good infrastructure for winter sports.
For his part, Furnadzhiev called the Bansko meeting “a very important initiative, which will help for the presentation of Bulgaria’s possible bid” to host Winter Youth Olympics. The Executive Board of the International Olympic Committee has until the year’s end to name the host of the 2028 Winter Youth Olympics.
Italy has also bid to host the event.
